Judy thinks Everett Mann paid Grandma $75.00 for the car after Grandpa died (probably in 1953). Larry and Judy bought it from Wilma in 1994 for $2500.00. Larry and Judy gifted the car to Jared a few years later. Everett always said he would never sell this car from his antique collection because of Judy and she really appreciated that.
I remember that when Grandma and Grandpa were visiting our house on Dakota in Alliance, my folks always gave Grandma a ride home.....even though Grandpa was going to the same place. Only one time do I remember Grandma riding home with Grandpa in the car. No one can corroborate this story.....but as an "under ten year old" ~ this is what I remember.
I talked with Jean and Maxine to see if I could get more information on this vehicle. Willie bought the car new in 1927 and drove it until he died in 1953. He never owned any other car. They lived in Springview at the time. Jean remembers all five of them (Willie, Alma, Jean, Bob, Leo) taking a trip to Stuart, NE, for a 4th of July celebration. They weren't told where they were going, and according to Jean, it took forever to get there....when, in fact, it was only 50 miles.
More from Jean: Willie had big, wide feet. Once when he drove the car to the grainery, he intended to hit the brake but instead his big, wide foot hit the accelerator and he ran into a concrete wall breaking the bumper off.
Willie used to deliver mattresses with the car by putting them over the top of the car and on a rack which was attached to the back of the car.
Maxine remembers riding with Willie one time when he ran up over a curb into someone's yard......she doesn't remember ever riding with him again.
I couldn't find much information about the price of the car originally ~ except that it probably cost between $900 - $1000 in 1927.
The next four pictures were taken in August, 1996. The first three were taken at the Box Butte County fair parade with Jean and Jared in the car. The one of Kenneth and Jean was taken in Judy Mann's yard.
